Designated centres

There are designated centres that provide services for victims of sexual assault in most of Québec’s regions. They are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These designated centres are generally located in hospitals.

The services are intended for victims of sexual assault—male and female children, adolescents and adults—who require an evaluation of their health, a medical examination or a forensic examination. The designated centres have medico-social teams composed of psychosocial support workers, nurses and doctors trained in helping victims of sexual assault.

CAVAC

Crime Victims Assistance Centre

Victims of sexual assault, as well as their family and friends, can also contact a CAVAC.

Organizations that assist victims of sexual assault

Victims can get psychosocial support from a local organization dedicated to assisting victims of sexual assault, or their local health and social services centre (CSSS). These organizations can provide you with information about the legal remedies available to you. They can also help you to cope with a sexual assault, whether it took place recently or in the more distant past. Finally, these organizations can support you in the steps you decide to take.

Help is just a phone call away!

The new information and referral helpline for sexual assault victims, their loved ones, and workers provides bilingual, confidential assistance.

A specially trained team of women receives your call, finds out what you need, and tells you what to do next. With a list of provincial services, they can guide you to the nearest help and protection available.

This toll-free line is in operation 24 hours a day,
7 days a week all across Quebec.

For listening or referrals, call 1-888-933-9007,
or 514-933-9007 in Montreal.
